Panama's cruise segment keeps growing, and the new 2026-27 season starts in October 2026. According to the Autoridad Marítima de Panamá (AMP), cruise passenger movement at the country's ports grew 21.6 percent year over year in the first seven months of 2026, reaching 488,567 passengers in embarkation and disembarkation operations. Cruise ship arrivals rose 20.1 percent to 143 calls. La Prensa, reporting the same AMP series through May, put the growth at 15.6 percent with more than 460,000 visitors. These are measured results, not projections.

Where the Traffic Flows

Growth concentrates where cruise activity already lives. Amador, the cruise port on Panama City's Pacific waterfront, is the capital's homeport and the segment the Tourism Authority (ATP) prioritizes under the national sustainable tourism plan. Caribbean itineraries include Bocas del Toro, and Pacific routes reach the Gulf of Chiriquí and Coiba. Each call brings visitors who spend a day in the city, and some return as longer-stay visitors.

Why It Matters for Property

Cruise volume is a demand signal, not a price signal. It supports short-term rental activity in port cities and waterfront towns, adds visibility for areas like Bocas del Toro and the Pacific coast, and gives hotel and tourism investors a measurable visitor base. It does not by itself move prices in any market.

What to Watch

The 2026-27 season begins in October, and AMP-concessioned ports are preparing logistics. Watch how many calls actually arrive and whether Amador homeport operations grow. Those numbers matter for tourism-linked real estate.
